Mild sedation: Typically for procedures like an ercp, they use conscious sedation, which uses a mild sedative to help you relax and an anesthetic to lessen the pain. You are still awake during the procedure. Depending on the circumstances, the physician may make exceptions and do the procedure under general anesthesia. Check with your gastroenterologist doing the procedure.

Yes!: Due to the complexity of ercp, sedation is preferred. I haven't seen an ercp without sedation. Check with the gi doctor about the sedation for your procedure.
