Artery Stiffness: The diastolic blood pressure or the "bottom number" when the blood pressure is taken is when the pressure at which the heart beat is no longer heard by the stethescope. It is related to the stiffness of the arterial tree in the body. The stiffer the artery the higher the diastolic pressure.
