What is the function of an echocardiogram?

Looks at heart: An echocardiogram uses sound waves (sonar) to look at the structure and function of the heart. The strength of the heart muscle, size of the various heart chambers and the structure and function of the heart valves is determined. Damaged heart from a heart attack can be seen any any valves that are narrowed (stenosed) or leaky are easily seen.
