Breathing problems: Shortness of breath with only mild exertion associated with leg swelling are the first symtoms of chf. Then it gets worse if not treated. The patient may not be able to sleep flat and wakes up to sit up to breath better. Chest XR and blood tests and heart ultrasound confirm the diagnosis.
