Most : Most people should start out by seeing their primary care doctor. In many cases, the primary care doctor can perform and examination and conduct testing that will help to determine if a specialist's opinion is needed, and if so, which specialty should be consulted. Most primary care providers have same-day or same-week appointments, whereas many specialists may be booked out several weeks. Many specialists require referral by a primary care doctor (even if insurance does not require a referral). Seeing a primary care provider first is not only good medicine, it is commonsense and economical.

It : It is possible that you are experiencing piriformis syndrome from your run. The muscle is deep in the butt cheek and lies over the sciatic nerve. You should be seen to rule out other things but a quick test is to lie down on your back, bend your right leg up so the heel is close to the butt and pull the right knee to your left side. That move pulls on the piriformis muscle stretching it. If that hurts a lot you probably got a spasm in the muscle. If you had a ruptured disk straight leg raising would hurt.
