Hello. : Hello. If you ever have a really severe headache "the worst one in my life". You should be seen urgently. If you have headaches with visual changes, loss of balance, numbness, any type of hallucinations you need to be evaluated expeditiously. For more garden variety symptoms, if it is impacting your quality of life, recommend that you seek a routine evaluation.

Now : Now that we have medicines that significantly shorten or stop migraines why suffer. Talk to your doctor about the headaches to help her determine if they fulfill the criteria for a migraine diagnosis. I don't usually order a ct scan if the history is typical for migraine and the neurological examination is normal. If the migraines are infrequent she may prescribe a triptan to be taken at the onset of the headache. If they are frequent, you may benefit from a preventive medicine as well. I had migraines for years before someone told me there were treatments available. (this was before medical school). Don't let migraines spoil your life. The good news is that they often stop after menopause.
