Patients : Patients who have been diagnoses with cancer are typically referred to a multi-disciplinary team for management of his disease. Make contact with this team and discuss your concerns. They will be able to give you about the disease, treatment options, and prognosis. If psychiatric counseling is required, and many times it is, you will be referred to an appropriate source of care.

Dr : Dr funari provided a very good recommendation. One very simple thing that the two of you can do together is deep breathing. Inhale slowly through the nostrils, hold for a count of five and the exhale slowly through the mouth. Repeat x 12. This can be so focusing and centering. It is very helpful in reducing anxiety and often helps to reduce tunnel vision.

Get the facts: When a diagnosis of cancer is rendered, the tumor will graded and staged, treatment options discussed, and survival curves explained. Your husband will know the odds of being alive in one, two, three years etc. There are cancers for which the cure rate is almost 100%. There are others for which I'd go straight to hospice. He needs a wise, clear-headed, no-drama wife more than he ever has before.
