Yes, : Yes, you can still get the shingles again. Herpes zoster's virus can lie dormant in a nerve root and then emerge later. The shingles vaccine is recommened for people 50 and over, even if you have previously had shingles. Considering how painful shingles is, i recommend the vaccine. Take care.

The : The fda recommends zostavax in those 50 and older. They state that it's unlikely, though not impossible, to get a second bout of shingles. The cdc recommends zostavax in those 60 and older. They recommend it even if you've had a bout of shingles. Neither entities recommend zostavax to treat an acute case nor the pain after the rash has resolved (post-herpetic neuralgia). The bad news is that your insurance may not cover the cost of the vaccine. Worse, medicare part b does not cover it either although part d does w/some possible cost sharing. So be sure to check for your costs.
