Joint or outside?: If you elbow is swollen in the joint (fluid filled), you may have acutely injured the joint cartilage itself. If the swelling is on the outside near the bony prominence, you may have injured or irritated a ligament or tendon. Try icing it, resting for a few days, and if it doesn't get better, i would see a primary care sports med doc, ortho or family doc to better evaluate it.
