Whenever : Whenever i hear the word "burning" from patients describing what they feel, i also think "nerve." you might have sciatica, or a problem with a disc in your lower back that is impinging on a nerve, which can cause burning or pain anywhere further down the leg, from the thigh to the toes. Have you ever had problems with your back before, or was there ever an injury? While an x-ray may be one of the first things your doctor might order, it really takes an MRI to diagnose disc problems. You might also be well to get an EMG / ncv, which are electrical tests to measure nerve conduction, to see if there is a nerve that is being pinched. Hope this helps.
