Possibly: It is more likely that if a parent has adhd that a child will also (particularly a male child). There are a lot of advances in treatment, so this is usually something that can be dealt with effectively through behavioral and if necessary medication regimens.

The cause of ADHD is: Multifactorial. Genetic studies show different combinations of 2 or > mutations or copy repeat errors in dna, each having modest effect, impact Dopamine or norepinephrine systems in parts of the brain that inhibit behavior. Biological factors (prenatal exposure to alcohol or tobacco, prematurity, etc.) ⬆the risk. Clear, consistent limits + immediate reinforcers & consequences are protective.

Runs in families: ADHD tends to run in families, especially among males. There is no way to predict if a future child will have aDHD.
