Amoxicillin : Amoxicillin doesn't work very well for staph infections, and typically won't work for methicillin-resistant staph aureus (mrsa). The Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is usually quite inexpensive and works much better. On the er paperwork they should have given you a follow-up doctor, look at that or if you don't have it, call the er and ask who they assigned you to for follow-up.

Won't work: The penicillin derivatives like amoxicillin hasn't worked with most skin infection causing staph since the 1950's. They were one of the first germs to become resistant to penicillin after its introduction. If you are having a reaction to the Bactrim you need to be seen by a local doc & have this documented. A change to a different med based on your past history would be needed. Go to urgent care.
