Most sharp thin foreign bodies ( whether it be chicken bones, fish bones, etc.) typically lodge in recesses or pouches we call the vallecula (at base of tongue) or in the pyriform sinus (on the side of the voicebox) and, therefore, are usually inaccessible to the patient. You should be seen by an ENT physician for a good fiberoptic exam. If nothing is obviously seen but symptoms persist, we generally recommend direct laryngoscopy and exam under anaesthesia for a better look. Impacted foreign bodies unattended to will incite an inflammatory response and make symptoms worsen over time.
