In : In spite of using techniques to minimize the chance of change in nipple sensitivity for breast lifts, the possibility does exist, albeit small, that it could occur. It does depend as well on how extensive a breast lift you will need. I hope this helps. Dr. Edwards.

There : There is a possibility of having decreased sensation or loss of sensation in the nipples after a breast lift and implant procedure. The nerves that provide sensation to the nipples come along the breast ducts and not on the skin surface. The change in sensation will be caused more by the implant than the incision around the areola. If you wake up from surgery with loss of sensation, don't worry, because there is a good chance the nerve can recover. The recovery of nipple sensation will go on for the first year. Best wishes dr. Peterson.

Loss of Sensation?: Change or loss of nipple/areola sensation is a risk associated with many types of breast surgery. However, assuming the operation is done very carefully, the vast majority of patients retain normal nipple/areola sensation after breast augmentation/lifting surgery. It will be important to choose your board-certified plastic surgeon carefully and learn about the potential risk–complications.

Normally: Generally speaking, a breast lift or augmentation should not change the sensitivity and that the nerves that are supplied to the nipple come off the lateral side of of the breast and should not be affected with these types of procedure. There is a small percentage of people who do have a loss of nipple sensation however generally speaking sensation is sometimes even heightened.
