Precautions: Peppermint oil can help ibs, but people have also experienced heartburn with this. It may decrease lower esphoageal sphincter pressure, allowing stomach acid to reach esophagus -- not good for someone with known barrett's esophagus. If you're going to use this, an enteric-coated preparation may get it beyond that point before being released -- less risk. Your GI doc will be best adviser here.
