Botox : Botox and Dysport are two brands of the same product. Both are derived from the same subtype of botulinum toxin. Dysport may set up a little faster, but essentially they are equally effective. Small variations my be found from person to person. I have some patients who one will work for better than the other, but for most people the differences are not noticeable.

Same effects: Dysport is not the whole toxin, like botox. That is the difference. It is a protein chain of the toxin that binds to a neuroreceptor that prevents muscle contraction, just like botox. Dysport usually has a quicker onset of action compared to botox.

Similar: Both products are botulinum toxins that work in similar ways. They work by inhibiting the release of the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, from peripheral nerve endings. They are slightly different in composition but the effect is similar.

Dysport vs Botox: Dysport is similar to Botox in composition, but has part of the structure removed (smaller). It has been shown to work a few days earlier than Botox in some studies, but a small study that used Botox on one side and Dysport on the other side of the forehead showed no noticeable differences. Both are excellent drugs to soften muscle activity and rejuvenate your face.

Neurotoxin: Both brands are neurotoxins and work in a simlar mechanism. Some feel that dysport has a faster onset of action and gives a softer look.
