Hello. : Hello. I can't diagnose your girlfriend's condition. I also don't know what her surgery was for. From the stand point of chinese medicine, the ear is a microsystem of the rest of the body. The body is represented by an upside down homonculus in the ear. Different organs and parts of the body are represented on different places on the external ear. It is not uncommon to have flaking or discoloration in parts of the ear that correspond to the involved body parts. For instance a doctor friend had flaking of her ear in the area that represents her elbow. In talking to her - she had chronic tennis elbow. This may or may not help to explain her flaking.
