Hello. : Hello. You stated that the hospital does not provide the type of treatment that your loved one needs, so they may not have a choice. If they occupy a bed for someone who they can't realistically treat, if could prevent another patient from getting care. Ask for review : If the care in the hospital has done all it can to fix the problem, it is time to discharge. That point comes when the doctors say “there is no more we can do”. If the patient still needs care that cannot be provided at home, then a transfer to a long term care facility is the next appropriate step. Needed medical care and interventions can be provided there. And specialist visits can be arranged.
