There : There are many types of intestinal infections. C. Difficile diarrhea is a type of bacterial infection that causes diarrhea. Diverticulitis is an infection of the diverticuli (little loops on the bowel). Colitis is an infection of the colon. Most intestinal infections are treated with IV antibiotics. Some types of viral infections can cause intestinal symptoms, these usually resolve with fluids or sometimes medications.
