A : A person can be pregnant with an HCG level of one. It depends on the lab. In our lab, a level of one is a positive test and needs to be repeated to see if it is going up. That is the main issue. A viable pregnancy will show an increasing HCG level. It is possible to ovulate late and an HCG level read lower than would be anticipated. The best bet is to repeat the level a week later. If you have any symptoms of pain or bleeding, make sure to call you doctor.

Pregnancy test: If you had sex since your last period and missed your period by 4-5 days, do a home pregnancy test. If the result is negative repeat the test 4-5 days later unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. A blood HCG level of 25 or higher is diagnostic of pregnancy.
