A member asked:

Why would a septoplasty require external incisions? my surgeon says my septoplasty will be complicated, and he might need to use an external incision. everything i've read says incisions are always internal. i didn't understand how he explained my case. w

Complicated : Complicated septoplasty surgery may require an open septo-rhinoplasty incision. This involves placement of an incision across your columella. A relatively common indication for this type of approach is a significant deviation of the caudal septum (the part of the septum closest to the nostrils). One often needs to reconstruct the septum in this situation and the open approach provides the necessary access and visualization.

If : If the septum is sverely deformed he may make an incision across the columella which is the bridge of tissue between your nostril openings..The scar is minimal and will give better exposure.www.beautybybrueck.com.

If : If it's septoplasty alone, you should not need external incisions, but if additional work on the nose is required, then it is possible external incision is some thing you need for the best results in the hands of your surgeon. Good luck from nyc. For more info visit www.Drgrossman.Com.
