There : There are many causes for blood in the stool, ranging from hemorrhoids to tumors, including infectious and inflammatory processes. In general, blood that appears only on the outside of the stool or on the toilet paper attributable to hemorrhoids. Blood that is mixed with the stool is somewhat more worrisome, but could certainly still be benign. I would recommend that you see your doctor for an evaluation. Until then, you should avoid medications that increase the risk of bleeding, including aspirin. If you are taking a blood thinner such as Coumadin (warfarin) or plavix, do not discontinue that drug without talking to your doctor.

I : I agree with dr. Andrews. It is important however, not to assume that hemorrhoids are the cause even if you have them. An evaluation by your doctor can help to determine the source of bleeding.
