Usually : Usually drug testing tests for benzodiazepines, narcotics, amphetamines, marijuana, and barbiturates, though some tests are different than others and test for more drugs. Xanax (alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine so would typically test positive in that situation. The patient is usually given a form before the drug test so that they can write down all of their prescribed medications.

It may: Depending on what test they use. Xanax (alprazolam) and Klonopin are not metabolized into the usual molecule that drug screening kits are looking for (at least not in large amounts) - oxazepam. There are kits that look for it. If you have a prescription for xanax, (alprazolam) that is an iron clad defense unless it is a safety=sensitive job. If it was not prescribed, you are misusing (if not abusing) the drug.
