If : If you really have gout and there is inflammation in your joint , the easiest way to improve it with no nonsteroidals is u8sing a local injection of Methylprednisolone , that will have a very small effect out side of the area and it will give you promt relieve.

Not : Not aware of any herbal or vitamin remedies though they might exist. Typically treatment for flare ups is either indocin, (indomethacin) colchicine, or steroids. As with most things they all have their advantages and disadvantages, so speak with your doctor. Gout is not as common in the upper as the lower extremity but certainly happens and even with a normal uric acid level. Longer term solutions should also be discussed with your doctor. Best of luck.

R U sure it is gout?: Gout involving the thumb is extremely rare. I would see a rheumatologist, have the area aspirated and make sure it is gout.
