She : She should go for a professional cleaning and continue every 3 months. An evaluation by a periodontist would be a good idea as well. She should make sure to keep excellent oral hygiene, brushing, flossing, as well while her braces are on to reduce any inflammation of the gums in hard to reach places due to the braces.

This : This is not normal and must be evaluated. It could be related to the specific placement of the brackets or it could be the level of her oral hygiene. You need a reasonable explanation from your dental practitioners.

It : It is quite common but not always to be expected that some remoulding of the lip and cheek tissue occurs in response to the presence of orthodontic braces, and it can be quite painful. There is an old remedy that your daughter can use immediately, and that is to warm up some soft wax and mold it into place over the irritating bracket or spring. The tissues of the mouth fit perfectly around the teeth, so well in fact that when you swallow virtually everything is squeezed out and back. You can therefore understand why a protuberance from the side of the teeth can irritate badly. Do go back to your orthodontist and have him tweak the appliances, and you will feel much better. One last thing, a salt water mouth rinse can make the area feel much better. You can find the instructions for that on my web site . The link is below. Swelling: If hygiene is less than optimal gums may be swelling into the braces. Ask orthodontist to check if it is a hygiene issue. If not, referral to a periodontist may be in order.
