You : You didn't mention your age or gender, which are vital pieces of information. If you're a male over the age of 45, you could be suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which results in prostate enlargement, crowding of the bladder, and a smaller bladder volume. Nocturia (nighttime urination) is a common symptom of bph. (prostate cancer can also cause nocturia, for similar reasons.) men with BPH can sometimes reduce their nocturia by stopping fluid consumption three to four hours before retiring, but other measures (medications, surgery, etc.) may eventually be necessary. Nocturia can also be caused by a bladder infection, asymptomatic bacteriuria, a large uterine fibroid or ovarian cyst (in women), diabetes, interstitial cystitis, excessive late-day fluid or caffeine intake, bladder cancer, congestive heart failure, or certain medications or supplements. All things considered, a medical evaluation is warranted to identify the cause of your nocturia and determine the appropriate treatment. Call your doctor for an appointment. Good luck!
