My mother had an endoscopic examination at 1:00 this afternoon. there was nothing removed for biopsy. is it alright for her to take her usual pain medication at this time? hydrocodone 7.5

For : For the future or for anyone reading this post, if you are unsure about medications or anything after a procedure is done, the best thing to do is contact the doctor that performed the procedure or refer to the post procedure instructions. Typically after an endoscopy medications can be resumed unless your doctor instructed otherwise.

Pain medication: Most endoscopies are done under IV propofol. An anesthetic that is safe and short acting. If this was used she should be able to take her pain medication. However, if other longer acting sedatives, such as Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) and versed, were used you may have to be more careful, especially late in the evening. Ultimately if she has taken pain medication for a while she should be ok. Use good judgement.
