Hello. : Hello. I don't know if your pain is chronic or acute. Sometimes having hot water against the muscles can help to relax them (shower head on pulsate mode or jacuzzi). If you are having neck pain, you might to ensure that your chair, computer set up etc, at home and at work are ergonomically correct. I do not know what pain medications you are taking but Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) helps to relax muscles. If you want quick relief medical acupuncture is very helpful.

I : I would recommend hot shower followed by neck stretching. Move head into position and hold it in that position with your hand. Relax neck and allow stretch. Let you hand and arm do the work. Each set please do: bend head forwards x 30 seconds bend head backwards x 30 seconds bend head to right shoulder x 30 seconds bend head to left shoulder x 30 seconds turn head left x 30 seconds turn head right x 30 seconds repeat 3 times total. This can be done twice a day if needed. You should see improvement in your neck pain over 1 to 2 weeks. I would also recommend seeing your primary care doctor. You may benefit from formal physical therapy assessment and seeing spine pain doctor if you do not improve. Good luck!

Pain management: If you have exhausted the treatment from primary care physician and symptoms have lasted more than 6 months, then see a pain management physician preferably with neurology specialty. Unfortunately this could become a life long problem even though not life threatening. If too severe a pain and nonsteroidals and P.T have been exhausted then opiods may be probable option for daily function.

Reevaluation: You may need to be reevaluated to discuss options for treating the cause of your pain rather than "just" taking pain medications, using a heating pad and resting. Based upon the specific diagnosis of the cause of your pain, there may be more powerful treatment options available.
