Patients : Patients who suffer from chronic debilitating pain often require a multi-modality approach to their care. Dealing with the ramifications of living with such pain certainly includes a psychological component. As a patient, i would be relieved that my physician is taking a comprehensive approach to my care. I would recommend you go to your "psych. Eval" with an open mind and try to gain as much benefit as you can. Having a dorsal column stimulator implanted is a serious undertaking and should be approached carefully. However, a psychological evaluation, while prudent, is not mandatory.
