A member asked:

Son bit by tick yesterday. it is swollen, red and sore. does he need to see a doctor? it was on his rear end. it hadn't been on there long.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

You : You probably should give his doctor a call since the redness, swelling, and pain may indicate an infection of the bite area. In general, most tick bites are harmless and do not spread disease. Other reasons for him to see his doctor are: - if he is acting sick - if the whole tick or the head is still imbedded in the skin - if the bite appears to be infected - any widespread rash, fever or severe headache 2-14 days after the bite - any bulls-eye type rash around the bite area 3-30 days after the bite.
