You : You will most likely need an orthodontist. You can see a dentist for their advice also. For tmj, there are some over-the-counter night splints you can buy that may help you.

TMJ : Tmj and overbite problems may not necessarily be related. Each needs to be evaluated and treatment options determined. Tmj is not just one specific problem. It varies in the types of symptoms and there are a wide variety of treatment approaches. While surgery is sometimes an option in treating "overbite" problems, it is not always the only option. It is always important to fully understand what your orthodontist is recommending before seeking other opinions. Too many opinions can create confusion and does not serve the patient in understanding the problems and available treatments. Being a good patient requires the patient to become educated and a good orthodontist will help in this process.

Treat to stability: This case was completed surgically at the improper joint position. You have to find the best functional relationship first, not whatever position happens to occur from surgery. Find the best functional position and then treat to that position, now some arbitrary position that may be dysfunctional. Treat to stability not by chance.

Can't: Can't diagnose your problem over the computer. Orthodontic and TMJ diagnosis are complex sophisticated procedures. Please see a qualified Orthodontic Specialist for the best answers to your questions.

Complex: Very complicated problem. You need coordinated treatment between a TMJ expert, orthodontist and oral surgeon. All 3 should have vast TMJ experience.

Unrelated conditions: Since these issues are unrelated you should address each separately. 1. See Orofacial Pain specialist for TMJ conservative, non surgical treatment. 2. See Orthodontist and oral surgeon for orthognatic surgery assessment and treatment.
