Breast : Breast lumps can occur at any age. While usually benign, new lumps should always be evaluated with an breast history and exam by one's primary provider. If there is any concern an ultrasound is typically ordered due to difficulty in interpreting mammograms in young women. If an imaging study is not recommended it is typically due to variations of normal or benign breast tissue, one should follow-up again in a month to confirm any recommended treatment was effective. If further evaluation is needed, it is typically with a general surgeon. Don peterson md facebook.Com/donpetersonmd.

The : The description and history you have given for the lump sounds consistent with a blocked milk duct. If it is a blocked milk duct it may be relieved by applying warm compresses. You can also gently massage the area to see if anything comes out. If you see a pasty/cheesy substance come out, it is likely consolidated breast milk. There are other reasons to have a breast lump however such as infection, breast cyst, and fibroadenoma. In any case you should have your doctor take a look to make sure there isn’t anything else to be done.
