It certainly can: The child parent relationship should be the model on which a child develops trust.To say it another way, the ability to predict accurately what to expect from a person you know well.When the primary people in your life have treated you inconsistantly& hurt you physicly or emotionally, you don't expect anyone else to treat you better.Rebuilding the trust anchor for this child can help them heal.

Not always: Reaction to abuse can be quite varied. Some children come to see abuse as normal, so they may seek out abusive relationships. They feel numb and try to get some feeling back by taking risks or becoming the"life of the party" or class clown.
