Multiple factors: We do not fully understand panic attacks. We believe it is an interplay between a genetic or familial susceptibility to anxiety and some external trigger. The trigger can be a real or imagined event which produces the biologic response of extreme fearfulness. Panic attacks are treatable. Discuss treatment options with your doctor.
