Try another tack: Rehersal is an important part of potty training & learning where equipment is & practicing diaper off sitting is important early in the process. After a toddler acquires these skills it is time to back off and become the potty assistant, not the potty commander. Tell baby you will help them when they need to go and mean it. Let them pick the time & respond immediately. They may need help only once.

Potty training: Be sure he has his OWN little potty to use, decorate etc. Place it next to your toilet. Sit the child on his own potty and then sit on the toilet next to him while he uses his potty so you can model behavior. Sit for five minutes then let child get up, no punishment. reward for success. be sure he is not constipated- that will lead to more withholding, so avoid binding foods , add lots of water
