If : If it was a door i would tell you to use some wd40. Lol! but since it is your knee i will tell you not to worry about it at this time. Pain is the main indicator to do something. Other important indicators are locking, giving way, and falling due to the knee giving way. Absent any of these, just carry on with your life. You may be developing some arthritis like the rest of mankind.

Patellar pain.: It's usually coming from the tracking of your kneecap joint. There could be a little wear in the joint, or inflammation, resulting in the popping that you're feeling. Usually patients benefit from physical therapy for such problems.
