Does child abuse lead to panic attacks?

Sometimes it does: Very stressful events can cause a person to start having panic attacks. Examples of truly stressful events include being a victim of a crime, witnessing a violent crime, being the victim of child abuse, being bullied at school, or being chased by a dog. Sometimes, mildly stressful events are perceived as very stressful by a person, who then unintentionally over-reacts and may have panic attacks.

This is complicated!: Child abuse can lead to many different psychological responses, including panic attacks. Certainly, the lack of support (whether it be physical safely, food, or even parental love) that defines child abuse leads to insecurity and fear. A child with a history of abuse needs a very constant, predictable, non-threatening environment to recover.
