A member asked:

If a person went in for an operation would they have checked for hiv? a major operation. blood was taken every day

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not: Testing for HIV is not routine prior to surgery. Surgeons use "universal precautions", which means they use protection as if any patient could have hiv, hepatitis b or c, etc. If you have any question about your HIV status, ask your doctor to get checked. The cdc recommends that every adult be tested for HIV so don't be shy.
