Although : Although a "normal" temperature is 98.6 there are many factors other than sickness that can cause a low reading such as type of thermometer, location of where reading is taken and even whether a child has had something cold to drink before an oral reading. If your thermometer reading is accurate (it is always a good idea to repeat an abnormal reading to verify accuracy) a low reading may signify significant illness. If your child is ill appearing and having symptoms, it is always best to have a physician examine your child in a timely manner.

Recheck temp: Provide hydration, clear liquids, nasal saline and cool air mist to relieve symptoms. If the temperature remains low, and/or your child does not appear well, please contact your PCP right away.
