Is it right for a mother to antagonize her son? just wondering, thanks.

Antagonism : Antagonism is in the eyes of the beholder, and the relationship between mother and son changes over time: what is appropriate maternal behavior with a 2, 12, 17 or 25 year old son will differ. Mothers are motivated by a variety of concerns, and may speak out based on personal and interpersonal factors; similarly, what a son experiences as antagonistic will vary. Perhaps "right" is not the best criterion; "effective" may be more helpful. Is the interaction productive, helpful to the son and also addressing the mother's concerns? Hopefully mother and son can look at the goals of the antagonism and find less upsetting but equally (or more!) effective ways of interacting.

Relationships: There are usually two sides to every story. However, obviously if there is a lot of relationship friction that can be very uncomfortable. If there is a real problem between a parent and child - family therapy may help.
