Yes, : Yes, black widow spiders can cause severe muscle cramping and this is considered a sign of black widow spider bites. These can be dangerous and you should have a medical evaluation. For very mild symptoms, just oral pain medications (advil, tylenol) can be used, but if it is a severe bite or an unstable patient, then sometimes anti-venom must be given or the patient may need iv's and other supportive care. If you have worsening symptoms, fever, redness, or any shortness of breath then you must be seen as an emergency.
