It's : It's very difficult to say if the symptoms you describe are menstrual in nature. I recommend a visit with your doctor. Back and stomach pain can be a sign of a urinary tract infection (uti), kidney infection (pyelonephritis), and even kidney stones. Other causes could be gastritis, viral infection, etc. As you see there are many possibilites. With a detailed history, physical, and lab tests your doctor should be able to give you an answer and treatment if indicated. Good luck.

Without : Without doing blood tests to check hormone levels, it's impossible to tell whether you are about to get your period. If you have regular periods, then you can usually time your cycle and know when you are about to have your next period. If you think your pains are due to your period, here are a few tips that can help your discomfort. - hot water bottles or heat packs can help with the pain in your back and stomach (make sure you place a towel between your skin and the source of heat) - warm bath - Ibuprofen or Naproxen is not only helpful as a pain killer, but also blocks prostiglandin - the hormone that causes cramps. If you are experiencing any fevers, nausea, vomiting, change in urination or bowel movements, or if your pain is continuing or worsening, you should call your doctor. If your pains are menstrual cramps, but are happening regularly and are affecting your life, talk to your doctor.
