There : There are several possibilities, but it sounds most likely like psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis which are red, scaly, flaky conditions of the scalp. Perhaps first try treatment with otc shampoos like nizoral, (ketoconazole) selsun blue or coal tar. If those don't work, consider prescription treatments with steroid shampoos/foams/oil treatments. Another option would be small injections of steroid into each sore (assuming you just have a few). For those with severe involvement, oral medications might be necessary and can help.

SORES: suggest that you may have PSORIASIS of your scalp. Your PCP can confirm this and recommend some initial treatment (eg: anti-psoriatic shampoos) Hope this is helpful! Dr Z
