The : The effects of marijuana use usually occur pretty quickly after smoking it and then start to decline after 3 hours of the last use. Most studies that measure how long thc is detectable in the urine look at occasional use. A positive urine test usually reflects occasional marijuana use within the last 1-3 days. However, with chronic use, some of the thc is stored in fat cells causing a slower release and much longer detection times - up to 5 or 6 weeks.

Many weeks: Depends on how much body fat you have. In the average person, daily smoking for a year or more will cause a large amount of thc metabolites to accumulate in fat cells, and you may test positive for many weeks, and even a few months is not unheard of. This is not thc, and is not the active drug, and does not keep you high - it is a metabolite that is detected in urine and blood.
