I : I hope the reason these doctors are not taking you on as a patient is something other than them thinking you are "drug seeking".Usually people who are on Methadone are controlled on it and tend not to have drug seeking behavior, so hopefully this is not the reason. I suggest you ask for a formal explanation as to why you are being denied. You can take that opportunity to explain your situation and what you hope to gain as a patient. If you are unsatisfied, or feel you are being treated unfairly, then i suggest you contact your insurance company and inform them of the situation. They should be able to help you find a primary care provider in your area who will accept you. If that does not work, then i recommend you get in touch with a social worker, who should be able to help you resolve this situation.

Stigma of addiction: Unfortunately, many doctors have the same stereotypes of chemically dependent pts that other people do. R u on Methadone for pain mgmt, or for previous opiate addiction (pills or heroin)? If pain, seek a pain mgmt specialist to be your primary care, if it was addiction, seek an addiction medicine specialist. Or at least a generalist wth interest in that area. They will understand & not judge.
