Most : Most doctors will begin nonsurgical treatment of club foot upon the day of birth with gentle manipulation and casting. Many children's club foot condition can be corrected using nonsurgical techniques. A brace may need to be worn for the first few years of life, as well, to promote healthy growth and discourage recurrence of the condition. If surgical intervention is indictated, this usually occurs between the 6 months to a year. The child will still need to wear a brace, following surgery. Find a doctor who has a good track record of performing this surgery.

Generally : Generally speaking, conservative management with serial casting (ponsetti) is the first line treatment. Most treatment plans with serial casting are effective and avoid the need for extensive surgical correction. Some patients require small surgeries such as an achilles lengthening with the casting treatment. If this fails, surgical correction can be performed. Most surgeons would like to have a plantigrade (corrected) foot by the time the child begins to walk-(around 12 months of age). For those that do not respond to serial casting( ponsetti) surgical correction should be performed between 6-9 months of age.
