A member asked:

Can liposuction get rid of all my fat?

No: A surgeon can remove fat cells containing the fat, but the person will regain fat in stranger places (where the remaining fat cells are) if he overeats later. If a person eats fewer calories than he needs to live on each day, his body will use the stored fuel (fat). If a person exercises more than he did before, but does not start eating more calories, then his body will also use the stored fat.

No: A certain amount of fat has to be left behind for normal blood flow and symmetry. Therefore, the amount of fat that can be removed through liposuction will depend on how much extra fat is present under the skin.

Lipo never rids all: No surgery ever removes all the fat. It shouldn't! the body needs to have fat as a cushion, barrier protection, heat regulator, supporter of the overlying epidermis, and without it, the skin would sink down and adhere to the muscle like glue and look terrible and even cause complications such as ulceration and scarring.

No: Impossible to surgically remove all of your fat. You need some fat to be healthy. There would be no technical way to do it even if someone tried. As you age, you naturally start to lose fat and muscle and bone which is why everything starts to sink in and sag. Having more fat especially in the fat helps you look younger as you age.

No: You don't want to get rid of all of your fat- that would be a bad look! liposuction removes some of the excess fat from the layer beneath your skin- even with aggressive lipo there should be a uniform layer of fat 1-2 CM thick beneath the skin.

No!!!!!!!: Nor would you want it to. A layer of fat is a necessity to keep the skin from sticking to the muscles. It also serves as important storage and padding. The key to successful liposuction is to reduce the thickness of the fat layer in the problem areas being treated so as to match the thickness of the fat layer in the normal areas not being treated.

Absolutely not: Nope! there are some very critical far deposits such as the pericardial fat pad and periorbital fat pads or omentum that should not and cannot be removed using liposuction. Liposuction was not intended to remove all your fat but more for isolated fat deposits.

No : Not only could it not remove all of your fat, it would not be safe or healthy to try. Liposuction works well but it is important that the patient understands that it can only remove a relatively small amount of fat below the skin and is not a weight loss treatment. While many different areas can be treated, all over the body sculpting is best done by weight loss.
