An : An addiction history is not necessarily a contraindication to using a stimulant for someone with adhd. That being said, depending on the addiction history (specific drug, proximity to treatment, whether it is active, etc) it may be a good idea to try something else in the non-stimulant class (bupropion, atomoxetine, guanfacine) first. It also depends on what you mean by "addicted instantly". If signs of overuse, using it to achieve a "high" and other aberrant behavior occur during the course of stimulant treatment those would be reasons to be cautious or to stop the medication.
