Also, these children are at higher risk for obesity and glucose intolerance, meaning that the body will have a harder time controlling glucose levels in the blood. It is great that you are monitoring and controlling your child's intake of sugar and overall diet. Look for signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) in your child: frequent urination, thirst, feeling very tired and weight loss. Ask your health care provider about strategies for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and bring this issue up each time to stay on top of it.

Minimal: You probably have a genetic predisposition for having dm, and the physical stress of pregnancy simply caused it to be expressed. Children in these pregnancies have no additional risks of contracting dm, other than the due to the genetics of both families.
