Do not check if the bleeding has stopped for at least 15 minutes. You should also elevate the bleeding limb over the level of the heart, as gravity will help slow the bleeding as well. Lacerations that are deep or long most likely will require stitches, especially in an area like the foot that will see lots of "wear and tear.".
